DAR ES SALAAM Tanzania, Capital Markets in Africa — Blood shedding continued on the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange equity trading at the close of Wednesday’s trading session. The equity market capitalization lost TZS 25 billion (about US$11.6 million) to end at TZS 21,560 billion relative to market capitalization of TZS 21,585 billion recorded at the previous trading session.
The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) sagged by 2.87 points or 0.12 percent to end at 2,461.37 points. Also, Tanzanian Domestic Share Index fell by 11.90 points or 0.26 percent to end at 4,591.51 points.
The Banks, Finance & Investment sector plunged by 1.04 percent or 32.15 points to end at 3,061.74 points. Industrial & Allied sector index remained unchanged to close at 6,145.00 points and Commercial services sector index stayed at 3,949.07.
Today, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 1,983.71 million from 5,150,439 shares traded in 58 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 1,268.35 million from 111,963 shares traded in 38 deals. CRDB traded 5,144,189 shares traded in 51 deals and National Microfinance Bank exchanged 500 shares in 1 deal. Tanzania Cigarette Company traded 400 shares in 2 deals. Tanzania Portland Cement Company traded 100 shares in 1 deal and Swissport Tanzania had 440 shares in 1 deal. Tanzania Breweries Limited registered 5,010 shares in 1 deal.
On the market strength/breadth perspective, the markets breadth ended negative today, with zero gainers and one laggard. National Microfinance Bank sagged by 1.79 percent to settle at TZS 2,750.
